I just watched this movie again with the english dub and the japanese subtitles, and I think the dub’s script is honestly better. Cooler is way more interesting in the dub, they inject some humor into the villains. When reading the japanese dialogue, it did feel like Cooler was discount Frieza. While in the dub, he really did feel like his own person.

Believe it was TV Tropes that pointed this out to me. A neat thing about Chiaotzu not knowing math is that it foreshadows how Shen has no familial connection to his students. Roshi took the effort to teach Goku reading and counting when he started training under the hermit. Shen meanwhile is only concerned with making killers out of Tien and Chiaotzu, raw clay for him to gain the credit of being who taught them.

I’m surprised since Toriyama wanted to switch the main character, Goku, over to another character, and I’m surprised he didn’t try to make Vegito into the main character.

Considering most Dragon Ball Arcs are named after the main threat, could it be argued this one could be called the Yamcha arc as he’s the most recurring antagonist?

Given how knowledgeable Yamcha is on martial artists and dangerous people, I’m really fascinated what his life was like before he and Puar became bandit buddies. Perhaps he had dreams of being a martial artist but during his upbringing couldn’t afford much so he decided that thievery was the best solution. Might also explain how he’s such a Pollyanna as TV Tropes puts it: he became a bandit just because he needed funds, only to immediately stop once he got a rich girlfriend. He never felt a desire to be evil and assumes anyone else can turn a new leaf just as quickly as himself.

Probably not the first to realize this, but the Buu arc got as many dissection parts as all of Dragon Ball before Raditz. This took as long to cover as the first 6 arcs. Dang. OwO Edit: Including the introduction episode.

For a while now, I’ve been pondering a thought regarding this ending. I feel like this specific ending, of Earth’s people contributing genki to Kid Buu’s defeat, convinced to do so by someone they see as a hero, might’ve still worked if Toriyama kept Gohan as the protagonist. Through some way, maybe inherited quick learning like his father, maybe a revelation he was taught how it works during the RoSaT, or maybe a skill from his Ultimate state to easily manipulate genki, Gohan realizes only the Genki-dama can take out Kid Buu. So as he charges up, he calls out to the recently revived people and asks for their help, using his Great Saiyaman voice to reveal who he is when they don’t trust him. Of course, that would require his time as a costumed hero to have happened much longer like in the anime.

(15:39-16:16) As a kid, I always found Majin Boo eating people a lot scarier than Cell. Don't give me wrong, Cell eating or even drinking his victims through his tail was terrifying, but Buu turning people into candy was scarier to me because he was not only immobilizing his victims, but also took joy in it. That sort of child-like joy made it more terrifying because he was like a kid who didn't know any better and was only having fun. Plus, I always assumed his victims were still sentient, so they could feel the pain of getting eaten. That made Majin Boo much more memorable to me.

Actually you don't even need to get rid of Oob. Instead keep him as a red herring. Obviously it would be the boy with the name spelled backwards, right? Then you can have Goku put his attention towards him, only to eventually realize Boo was the kid he's already been training and spending time with. Now instead of Goku flying away from all the people in his life, the last page can be a celebration and embrace of his family.

Sudden thought. Given the high chance Toriyama was suffering from burnout and just wanted his manga done with, is it perhaps possible when he began Gohan’s high school stories, he realized how tired he was but didn’t want his fighting focused manga to abruptly end at high school antics and so came up with the tournament and either also or after that Buu to give Dragon Ball a final arc that for the most part tonally matched what had come before?

Given that Goku lived on the mountains for most of his youth, I could imagine he at some point stumbled across animals during mating season and pieced things together when they eventually got younglings accompanying them.

Unfortunately sense none of these issues are addressed by the material all you can do is use head cannon that basically add details and motivations that could explain what happened.

To avoid DEATH. Diddy and Trixie are both unlikely heroes. Cranky has expressed his doubts in Diddy many times. Cranky is like a more intelligent parent from the Pokemon games. Do you really want your 10 year old leaving home to travel the country alone with a stupid level 5 Pokemon? There is a reason men are in combat roles in the military, or are held to higher physical requirements in all police training.

The Marvel movies aren't real films. It's like taking a really long video game. Green screen actors into it, calling it a movie and then slapping it into every theater across America.

In one of my favorite DBZ fanfictions, Dende had enough of the abuse of the dragon balls 7 years after Cell and put on some restrictions to prevent it from going further. I don't think there was any mention of corruption, but he hated how the balls were used to make life feel meaningless due to constant resurrection.

History as proven it; Minus ruins everything in Dragon Ball.

What's really ironic is how the Hilda and most of the side characters have more developed personalities than the 3 main characters. Even though Firion, Guy, and Maria are barely more interesting than the light warriors from the original game, I think Hilda and Gordon make up for the wasted potential of the others.

The Marsh cave is rough for sure but I always dread the Ice cave more whenever I play this game again because of the elves that cast "rub" (aka "Death" in later entries) and if they kill the white mage then no one is getting revived and there are few if any characters that can use the warp spell at that point too.

Here's another thing the story should have brought up... the fact that some of bad things that happened were their fault. Like letting the evil mad scientist have his way for extremely dubious reasons. All of the people brought back to life that arc wouldn't have needed to be brought back to life if not for their stupidity. Or how the Earth's first destruction could have been avoided if Vegeta didn't Vegeta or if the ones tasked with defeating Boo didn't screw up so badly. So in those instances it was totally their fault. Also why didn't they ever consider Nameks dragon balls to revert Goku back to his adult body as one of the wishes next to reviving Krillin as it should be the only way to do that.

Love that SNES soundtrack. I'd say the game itself was pretty solid too, if a bit on the easier side.
